Conference : "The Development of Competition Law in India"

HEAD Law School, and in particular the students of HEAD’s Compliance and Competition Law Program, are honored to welcome the Honorable Justice G.S. Singhvi, former Judge of the Indian Supreme Court, for an exceptional lecture and discussion on: «The Development of Competition Law in India».

Questions that will be addressed include:

  • What is the framework of Competition Law in India?
  • What are the key challenges and opportunities regarding the enforcement of Competition Law in India?
  • What is the likely future for Competition Law in India?
  • Are there merger control procedures in place in India, and, if so, how do they unfold?

Justice Singhvi practiced law for many years before serving as a Judge, then Chief Justice, of several High Courts in India. He served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India for more than 6 years, and, following his retirement from that position, was appointed as Chairman of the Competition Appellate Tribunal.  He presently serves as an Arbitrator in domestic and international disputes.

During his tenure as a Judge, Justice Singhvi decided cases involving the interpretation of the Indian Constitution (particularly, the concept of State, the equality clause and the right to life), and cases involving land acquisition, matrimonial and educational matters, consumer law, motor accident victims’ awards and the Competition Act, 2002.
